Wizards take 2nd Place in the USA Cup

The Waunakee Area Soccer Club U17 Wizards took Second Place in the USA Cup in Blaine, Minnesota the weekend of July 17-19.  They defeated a team from Morehead, Minnesota (2-1) and the Allouez Alliance (1-0_ in round robin play.  A team from South Dakota defeated the Wizards 3-2 to end round robin play.  With a 2-1 record the Wizards finished first in their bracket.  They again would play the Morehead team in a semi-final game.  The Wizards to the end scoring a goal with under 10 minutes remaining in regulation to secure a spot in the championship game with a 1-0 victory.  In the championship game the Wizards faced the Green Bay Lightning.  This game would go into overtime with the two teams tied after regulation at 2-2.  In the first, 5 minute overtime session, the Lightning scored with under a minute to play.  After the teams changed sides of the field, the Wizards turned up the heat.  The Lightning were able to hold this day with a 3-2 win.
