Matthias Kestler was born in Germany and moved to the United states at the age of 7. By then he had already developed a love for the game of soccer. By the time he was 14, he was playing high level competitive soccer for the Bavarian Soccer Club in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Some of the many accomplishments with his teams included, winning the state cup, winning many tournaments, and playing numerous international friendlies against teams from Germany, Mexico, Brazil, Italy, Switzerland, and England, among others. At the end of his junior year, he moved to Hawaii, joining the Pearl City High School team. Due to a knee injury, he ended up playing in goal and along with the other 5 seniors helped guide the team to a state semi-final berth. He also worked with a u-11 boys team for the first time coaching in AYSO, quickly learning he loved coaching just as much as playing. After playing in the adult men's competitive league for 2 years, he moved back to Wisconsin. Upon moving back to the madison area, he continued to play in the men's city league and co-ed leagues, (where he still plays today). His coaching career continued in maysa, coaching rec and classic teams until 1994 when the 56ers put him in charge of the u-13 boys premier team, leading them to 1st place in the New Berlin Soccer Classic, 2nd place in the PVYSC Flat Grass Showdown, 3rd place in the Mt. Prospect Green/White Soccerfest. In 1997, he joined the staff at Lodi High School, and started coaching there. He continued to coach both boys and girls in high school until the birth of his daughters. A couple years later he worked with rec teams in the lodi area, and eventually came to have a second run with the Lodi High School team again in 2005 and 2006. After moving to Waunakee, He started to coach some with his daughters teams. He has had his "D" license since 2005. He is bilingual in German, and still plays soccer, usually with his former players.
